The process to upgrade vRealize Log Insight from version 2.5 to version 3.0 is very straight forward.
Download the v3.0 upgrade .pak file from MyVMware.com
Connect via your browser to the Log Insight appliance with an account that has administrator rights.
Once logged in, top right hand corner, click the drop down box and select ‘Administration’.
On the left hand side of the screen, click the ‘Appliance’ tab. You will now see the current version and ‘Upload PAK’ button. Click this and it will allow you to browse to the .PAK file you downloaded from VMware.

Once the .PAK file is uploaded, the ‘Upgrade’ button now becomes available
Click ‘Upgrade’ and you will be prompted with the following “Are you sure you want to upgrade?” Yup that’s what I am here for so I proceed to click on ‘Upgrade’
The .PAK file will begin to be uploaded
You will be prompted to accept the VMware EULA – which I click ‘Accept’
The upgrade commences
It took 5 minutes but I was returned to the login screen
Once I logged back in, I was presented with Upgrade Successful, and I then clicked ‘OK’
The appliance upgrade is now complete and the Log Insight v2.5 agents deployed to Windows and Linux need to be upgraded to v3 also.
